She Woke Up at Her Own Funeral and Grabbed His Hand

Chapter 2 - The Funeral That Should Never Have Happened

Anna was rushed to the hospital before Daniel could stop anyone.

The church erupted into chaos the moment Ellie screamed that her mother was breathing.

Relatives called emergency services.

Two guests recorded everything.

Daniel could no longer quietly close the coffin.

At the hospital, doctors found something disturbing.

Anna had not suffered a fatal cardiac event.

Her heart rate and breathing had been suppressed by a powerful combination of sedatives.

She had been alive the entire time.

Barely.

But alive.

Daniel sat outside the treatment room with Ellie beside him.

He played the grieving husband perfectly.

He cried.

He demanded answers.

He told police he wanted whoever made the mistake held responsible.

But Anna remembered his words.

Think about your daughter.

When a detective finally entered her room, Daniel came with him.

Anna looked at Ellie sitting outside through the narrow glass panel.

Then she looked at her husband.

"What do you remember?" the detective asked.

Anna knew exactly what she remembered.

Dinner at home.

Daniel pouring her wine.

The bitter taste.

Waking briefly in darkness.

Voices discussing paperwork.

A man's voice saying:

"Once the ring is removed, you'll have what you need."

Then nothing until Ellie's small hand touched hers.

Anna looked at Daniel.

His expression remained calm.

She understood the warning.

If she accused him immediately and failed to prove it, he still had access to Ellie.

So Anna lied.

"Nothing."

Daniel's shoulders relaxed almost invisibly.

The detective asked, "Do you remember taking any medication?"

"No."

Daniel reached for her hand.

Anna let him touch it.

For now.

That evening, a nurse helped Anna remove her wedding ring for an MRI.

Anna almost refused.

Then she noticed something.

Inside the band was a tiny groove she had never seen before.

She turned the ring toward the light.

A miniature metal compartment had been built beneath the setting.

Inside was something smaller than a fingernail.

A memory card.

Anna stared at it.

Then she remembered Daniel's words before the funeral.

"I need that ring."

He had not been trying to take a souvenir.

He had been trying to recover evidence.
