She Woke Up at Her Own Funeral and Grabbed His Hand

Chapter 3 - What Daniel Hid Inside The Marriage

Anna did not tell the police about the memory card.

Not yet.

She told the nurse she wanted to see one person alone.

Her older brother, Marcus.

Daniel hated Marcus because he never trusted him.

That made him exactly the person Anna needed.

When Marcus arrived, Anna placed the card in his palm.

"If anything happens to me, give this to the police."

His face changed.

"What is this?"

"I don't know."

They opened it on his laptop.

There were dozens of files.

Bank records.

Audio recordings.

Scanned contracts.

Photographs.

Anna recognized several names.

Daniel's business partner.

Their family attorney.

A private physician.

And her own.

For months, Daniel had been moving money out of a trust Anna inherited from her father. The withdrawals required either Anna's authorization or proof that she was dead.

Her supposed death solved both problems.

But that was not the worst file.

There was an audio recording.

Daniel's voice.

"If Anna dies before the trust transfer, Ellie becomes beneficiary."

Another man responded:

"And you become legal guardian of the beneficiary."

Daniel laughed.

"Exactly."

Anna covered her mouth.

Marcus stared at the screen.

Daniel had not simply tried to steal her money.

He had structured everything so that Ellie's inheritance would remain under his control for more than a decade.

Then another recording played.

The doctor asked, "What if the dosage doesn't hold?"

Daniel replied:

"The funeral is within forty-eight hours."

Anna felt sick.

He had expected her to be buried alive.

Marcus stood.

"We call the police now."

Anna grabbed his arm.

"No."

He stared at her.

"Anna, he tried to murder you."

"And he threatened Ellie."

"Then we get her away from him."

"We need to know who else is involved."

Marcus looked back at the files.

There was one document they had not opened.

A life insurance policy.

Not on Anna.

On Ellie.

Ten million dollars.

Taken out six months earlier.

Beneficiary:

Daniel.

Anna felt the room go cold.

This was no longer about protecting her daughter from a threat.

Her daughter had already been part of the plan.
