His Black Card Failed the Moment His Wife Stepped Forward

Chapter 2 - The Perfect Betrayal

Daniel followed Claire outside.

"What the hell did you do?"

She kept walking.

"You stole my money!"

Claire stopped.

For the first time, she laughed.

"Your money?"

Daniel lowered his voice.

"I moved three million dollars."

"You tried."

His face changed.

Claire had discovered the affair four months earlier.

Not through lipstick.

Not through suspicious messages.

Through accounting.

Daniel had always underestimated one thing about his wife.

She understood money better than he did.

Claire's father had founded Carter Holdings twenty-seven years earlier.

When he died, Claire inherited controlling ownership.

Daniel received an executive position after their marriage.

A company car.

Expense accounts.

Authorized access to several family accounts.

And eventually, because Claire trusted him, financial power of attorney for limited business transactions.

Daniel slowly began to believe access meant ownership.

Then he met Olivia.

She was younger.

Beautiful.

And constantly told him he deserved more.

More money.

More authority.

A life where he did not have to be "Claire Carter's husband."

Daniel started planning.

First, he moved small amounts.

Claire noticed immediately.

She said nothing.

Then he created shell companies.

She noticed those too.

Still nothing.

Then he forged her signature on documents transferring two commercial properties.

That was when Claire visited her attorney.

"Do we stop him?" the attorney asked.

Claire shook her head.

"Not yet."

"Why?"

"Because right now he thinks he's smarter than me."

She wanted him to keep believing that.

So Claire changed the structure behind the accounts.

Every suspicious transfer Daniel initiated was redirected into protected escrow accounts controlled by the family trust.

He saw confirmation screens.

He saw transaction numbers.

He believed the money had moved.

It had.

Just not to him.

Then Claire revoked his ownership rights in every personal asset legally belonging to her.

But she waited to cancel the card.

Until the jewelry store.

Until he tried to buy another woman a ring with Claire's money.

Daniel stared at her on the sidewalk.

"You set me up."

"No."

Claire shook her head.

"I watched you set yourself up."

Olivia came running outside.

"Daniel, what's happening?"

He turned toward her.

"Nothing."

Claire looked at Olivia.

"You should ask him where your penthouse is."

Olivia frowned.

Daniel went pale.

"What penthouse?"

Claire smiled.

"Exactly."
