His Black Card Failed the Moment His Wife Stepped Forward

Chapter 5 - The Last Transfer

The divorce hearing took less time than Daniel expected.

He arrived wearing a suit he had borrowed from his attorney.

Claire wore white.

Not bridal white.

Just clean, simple white.

Daniel stared at her across the courtroom.

The financial report was devastating.

Claire retained everything she owned before and during the marriage according to the prenuptial agreement Daniel himself had insisted on signing fourteen years earlier.

At the time, he believed he would eventually become wealthier than Claire.

Now that agreement protected her.

Daniel's legitimate share after liabilities was tiny.

Worse, criminal proceedings related to the forged financial documents were still pending.

After the hearing, he caught Claire outside.

"Are you happy now?"

She stopped.

Daniel looked exhausted.

Older.

Smaller somehow.

"You got everything."

Claire studied him.

"No."

"You have the company."

"Yes."

"The house."

"Yes."

"The money."

"Yes."

"And I have nothing."

Claire shook her head.

"You had something."

He frowned.

"What?"

"A wife who trusted you."

Daniel looked away.

Claire continued.

"You had a career I helped you build. A home. Security. A family."

Her voice stayed calm.

"You traded all of it for money that was never yours."

Daniel swallowed.

"Claire..."

She started walking.

Then stopped.

"There is one last thing."

He looked up.

Claire handed him a folded document.

His expression changed.

"What is this?"

"The final transfer you tried to make."

Daniel opened it.

Three million dollars.

The money he believed he had hidden in an offshore account.

The document showed where it actually went.

A charitable trust.

Created in Claire's name.

Its purpose:

Financial assistance for women rebuilding their lives after economic abuse.

Daniel stared at her.

"You donated it?"

"My money."

Claire corrected him.

"I donated my money."

His face twisted.

"You planned all of this."

"No."

She looked directly at him.

"You planned all of this."

She pointed at the document.

"I just changed the ending."

Daniel stood silently as she walked away.

A year later, Claire returned to the same jewelry store.

The same clerk recognized her.

"Ms. Carter."

Claire smiled.

She stopped in front of the display.

The enormous diamond Daniel once tried to buy was gone.

In its place sat a smaller ring.

Simple.

Elegant.

Claire looked at it for a moment.

Then shook her head.

"I'm not here for jewelry."

The clerk smiled.

"What brings you back?"

Claire looked toward the marble column where she had once hidden.

"The anniversary of a good decision."

Outside, she pulled out her phone.

A news notification appeared.

Daniel's fraud case had ended.

Probation.

Restitution.

Permanent removal from corporate financial management.

Claire read it once.

Then deleted the notification.

No champagne.

No celebration.

No need.

Daniel had believed his revenge would be leaving his wife with nothing.

Instead, he had transferred away every advantage she had ever given him.

And Claire's revenge was simpler.

She let him finish.
